Robert was born in 1823 and his baptism took place on February 23rd, 1823 in Fulmodeston, Norfolk, Engl.. Robert's father was Richard SHELTON OR SKELTON and his mother was Elizabeth WILLIAMSON. His paternal grandparents are John SKELTON and Moll RUSH; his maternal grandparents were John WILLIAMSON and Ann EWEN. He had six brothers and two sisters, named John, James William, Robert, John Richard, Richard, William, Ann Mary and Isabella. He was the second oldest of the nine children.
