Thomas was born on April 13th, 1743 in Shadwell, Goochland Co, Virginia. Thomas' father was Peter Jefferson and his mother was Jane Isham Randolph. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Jefferson and Mary Field; his maternal grandparents were Isham Randolph and Jane Rogers. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Peter Field, Randolph, UNKNOWN, Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha, Lucy and Anna Scott. He died at the age of 83 on July 4th, 1826 in Montecello, Albemarle Co, Virginia. He was buried in Montecello, Albemarle Co, Virginia.General Notes

This Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United States

Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 at Shadwell in Albemarlecounty, Virginia. He had
inherited a considerable landed estate from his father, and doubled it bya happy marriage on Jan. 1,
1772, to Martha Wayles Skelton. He was elected to the House of Burgesseswhen he was 25.
As a member of the Continental Congress in 1776, Jefferson was chosentogether with John Adams,
Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingstone and Roger Sherman to draft theDeclaration of Independence. He
wrote the declaration himself and was amended by Adams and Franklin.
In 1784 Jefferson became, first, a commissioner to negotiate commercialtreaties, and then, Benjamin
Franklin's successor as minister. Toward the end of his mission hereported the unfolding revolution in
France. Eventually he was repelled by the excesses of the FrenchRevolution. He thoroughly
disapproved France's imperialistic phase under Napoleon Bonaparte.Because of his absence in Europe,
Jefferson had no direct part in the framing or ratification of theConstitution of the United States.
The most notable achievement of Jefferson's first term as President(1800) was the purchase in 1803 of
Louisiana from France for 15 million dollars. (see Lewis and Clark).During his second term Jefferson
encountered greater difficulties. One of the domestic problems was theBurr-Conspiracy, with the former
vice president on trial for treason.
Jefferson was succeeded as president in 1809 by James Madison. During thelast 17 years of his life,
Jefferson remained in Virginia. As the 'Sage of Monticello' he engaged ina rich correspondence with
John Adams and others. Jefferson's last great public service was thefounding of the University of
Virginia in 1819. He died at Monticello on July 4, 1826 on the 50thanniversary of the Declaration of
Independence.

Thomas Jefferson MAY have also had an affair with a married woman whom he met while in France, Maria Causeway, although there is no evidence forit. She was Roman Catholic and so would not consider divorce. The pair had become completely infatuated with each other and did many things together for about a month; they had very similar interests. It was an extremely rare thing for Jefferson to find someone of either sex that he could converse with on such a wide range of subjects, which was no doubt the driving force behind the relationship. After she went back home he never seemed to show any interest in any other women.
