He owned race horses and, in 1697 in Chesterfield Co VA, hishorse"Bonnie" won against "Wat". In 1698 he settled at Osborne's, a community on the James River, some 12 miles from Bermuda Hundred. He mMary Field that year in Henrico Co VA, where the marriage record identitied him asthe son of Thomas and Mary Jefferson. He purchased several parcels ofland in Henrico Co VA, the first being 167A from William Byrd in 1699. Heand his partners were granted lands there: in1704 they were granted 628A, and in 1718 they were granted 1500A. He served Henrico Co as justice of the peace 1714-1734, as sheriff 1718-1719,and was a captainin the militia. He made his will 15 Mar1725, naming his children. The will was proved Apr1731 in Henrico Co. He m 1) Mary Field1698 in Henrico Co.Their children were born in Henrico Co: Abstract of the Will of Thomas Jefferson To son Field, mourning ring worth 20 shillings To son Peter, my land on Fine Creek and Manekin Creek If he dies before 21, to my three daughters, Judith, Mary and Martha. Also, to son Peter, negroes and items, some of which were bought of Turpin, Joseph Wilkinson and Thomas Edwards. To daughters Mary and Martha, the land Ilately bought of George Carter, the land mortgaged by Grills, and all the rest of estate to be sold by Major William Kennon and Henry Wood and then L 10 to be given to my daughter Judith Farrar and the rest divided between my daughters Mary and Martha. My sister Martha Winn to take care of my daughter Martha and Capt. Henry Randolph to take care of my daughter Mary.If daughters die before 21, survivor to get their share and if both die,to daughter Judith Farrar.
