Samuel L. was born in 1818 in Guilford, NC. Samuel L.'s father was Beacham Gannon and his mother was Rebecca WHITT. His paternal grandparents were Perry Gannon and Esther Andrew; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Nathaniel WITT and Sarah KIMBROUGH. He had seven brothers and five sisters, named James D., John, Thomas B., Dillard L., Andrew, James Warrin, Samuel A., Mary, Martha, Julia F., Sarah and Rebecca Jane. He is the fourth oldest of the thirteen children.-
