His paternal grandparents were Charles Gannon and Rebecca Perry; his maternal grandparents were George Andrew and Mary Beauchamp. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Mark, William, George, John, Jane, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN and Mary "Polly". He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
