James Grier was born about 1833 in Guilford County,NC. James Grier's father was George Gannon and his mother was Nancy Sloan. His paternal grandparents were William Gannon and Agnes Nancy Greer. He had two sisters named Margaret J. and Elizabeth C.. He was the second oldest of the three children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William Calvin, George Washington, Joseph F., Rebecca M., Mary C., Nancy M. and Tempe. He died after 1880.General Notes
