Matilda was born on August 2nd, 1821 in Lawrence County, Tennessee.  Matilda's father was David "Davey" Stern CROCKETT and her mother was Elizabeth Patton.  Her paternal grandparents were John B. Crockett and Rebecca Sullivan Hawkins; her maternal grandparents were Robert Patton and Rebecca Cathey. She had a brother and a sister, named Robert Patton and Rebecca Elvira.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named John Wesley, William F., George, Margaret Finley Polly and Margaret Ann.  She died at the age of 68 on July 6th, 1890 in Kenton, Gibson County, Tennessee.  She was buried in North Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetary, Rutherford, Gibson County, Tennessee.


Matilda's first family with Thomas D. Tyson

‌Matilda and Thomas D. were married in a religious ceremony before 1838 in Gibson County, Tennessee.  They had two sons and two daughters, named David, Benjamin Bruce, Mary E. and Candis Queen.
