Her paternal grandfather was Thomas CLAYTON and her paternal grandmother is Mary Walker; her maternal grandfather was Alexander BROWN and her maternal grandmother is Mary UNKNOWN. She had nine brothers named Thomas, Alexander, Samuel, John B, Matthew, Joseph, David Moore, James P and Isaac. She was the third oldest of the ten children.
