Julianna was born in Gilberdike, Eastrington Parish, East Yorkshire, England.1 Julianna's father was Richard Swan and her mother was Anna Spofford. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Swan and Juliana; her maternal grandfather was John Spofford. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named William, Richard, Jonathan, John, Robert, Jane, Frances, Susan, Dorothy, Anna, Mercy, Sarah and Faith.
