John Frederick was born on September 21st, 1875 in Ashton, IL.1 John Frederick's father was George Reiss and his mother was Wilhelmina Anthes. His maternal grandparents were John Caspar Anthes and Louisa Fredericka Just. He had a brother and five sisters, named Ezra Charles, Anna Sophia, Emma Louisa, Martha Anna, Mary Henrietta and Josephine Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the seven children.
