Margaret was born about 1088 in Rycott, Oxfordshire, England.1 Margaret's father was Eudo De Rie and her mother was Rohese Fitzrichard De Clare. Her paternal grandfather was Hubert de Saint Clair; her maternal grandparents were Richard De Tonbridge De Clare Fitzgilbert and Rohese Giffard. She had a sister named Albreda. She was the younger of the two children. She had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Geoffrey, Hubert, Walter, Godfrey, William, Dionisia, Aveline, Alice and Maude (Matilda).
