His paternal grandparents were Guillaume I Longue Épée and Sprota Adela De Senlis*; his maternal grandfather was Herbastus De Crêpon. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Godfrey Count Of Brienne, Mauger Count Of Mortain, William, Hawise Of and Emma Princess Of. He was the second youngest of the seven children.
