Lawrence Otto was born on January 31st, 1831 in <, Il.>.1 Lawrence Otto's father was Adam Jr. Darnell and his mother was Catharine Harlan. His paternal grandparents were Adam Sr. Darnell and Catherine Riley; his maternal grandparents were James Harlan and Mary Ann Wood. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William P., Adam, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Sarah and Catharine. He was the second youngest of the seven children.
