Adam Sr. was born on August 9th, 1754 in Faquier County, Virginia, USA.1 Adam Sr.'s father was Waugh Darnell and his mother was Mary ?. His paternal grandparents were Morgan Darnell and Elizabeth Duncan. He had five brothers named Morgan, David, Charles, Alexander H. and Waugh Jr.. He was the youngest of the six children. Adam Darnell was born in Faquier Co. VA. according to a fellow researcher on 9 Aug. 1754 while his year of birth given by him at a
later date when he applied for a pension was 1761. The "Pioneer History of Washington Co. KY." p. 206 & 206 lists Adam Darnell as a native of Fauquier Co. VA. born in 1761 and having enlisted in the 3rd Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Heath in 1779 and serving for 2 years. He was at the Battle of Monmouth and the surrender of Cornwallis. On p. 287 of that same publication it is reported that Adam Darnell, age 60, aplied for a pension on 5 Feb. 1821 stating that he had a wife and 3 under age children living with him. He stated that he had enlisted in the 3rd Virginia Regiment under Capt. Blackwell and commanded by Col. Heath. In both preceeding reports he is listed as Adam Darnell Jr. indicating that his father was named Adam also. He is also mentioned in "Virginia Settlers" as a private in the 3rd Virginia Regiment having 19 cards starting with #35612269 Book Mark 410200. Early Kentucky records list several Darnells but Adam is the only one who appears in Washington Co. He is first listed in the second Kentucky census (1800) in Lincoln Co. KY. By this time he and his wife, Catherine, had several children as 2 of his daughters marry in Washington Co. in 1804 and 1808. Adam is listed on the consent bonds for both. The 1810 Washington Co. census lists the family as follows: 1 male under 10. 1 male 16-26 (Adam Jr. who marries
in 1813) 1 male 45+(Adam), 1 female under 10, 2 females 16-26, and 1female 45+(Catherine) In 1813 Adam signs the consent bond for his son's marraige to Catherine Harlan. Nothing further is found about Adam until 1825 when Catherine executes a deed disposing of his property indicating that he had died about that time. The deed is signed by his children and Catherine. An additional deed is executed in 1832 selling 150 acres on Sulphur Creek formerly occupied by Adam Darnell Sr. to Lewis Darnell. This deed is signed by the children and Catherine Davisan(Denizen)formerly Darnell and who had remarried by then. Adam and Catherine had the following children; Adam Jr., John, Lewis, Elizabeth, Hannah, Nancy.
At abouut the same time that Adam applied for his pension, a second Adam Darnell applied stating that he was 80 years old, very infirm with no trade and unable to work for his support and the support of his wife and 3 children. He stated that he had been born in Faquier County, Va. and served in the same military unit as our Adam. His application was made on 2 May 1881 and he is listed in pension records as Adam Darnell Sr. Washington Co. KY. pension records in 1835, state that Adam Darnell Jr. was a private in The VA. line. This is the second Adam and he was still alive at that time at age 94.
The two Adam Darnells were 14 or 15 years apart precluding the possibility that they were father and son. They are undoubtedly related
having served in the same military unit and came to Washington Co, Ky. at about the saame time. The second Adam doesn't appear in any of the usual Washington Co. records. Adam Darnell Jr. had the following children:

Adam married Catherine at an unknown time and place.
He is listed in the 1800 Kentucky census in Lincoln County.
The 1810 Washington County, KY census lists him with 1 male under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 45+(Adam), 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-16, and 1 female 45+(Catherine)
Hannah Darnell married Tapley Holt in Washington Co. on 18 April 1804.
Betsy Darnell married Daniel Royalty on 1 Nov. 1808 in Washington Co.
Adam Darnell married Catherine Harlan in Washington Co. on 18 Oct. 1813.
Adam died about 1822 as his widow Catherine married Daniel Denizen in Mercer Co. KY. in that year.
In 1832, a deed selling the property of Adam was executed by Catherine on Dec 10.
The deed stated that 150 acres on Sulphur Creek was sold to Lewis Darnell. It was signed by Adam Jr. and wife Catherine of Indiana, John and Nancy Darnell, Tapley, Holt and Hannah, Elizabeth Royalty, Catherine, Davisan(Denizen), John and Adam Carver.
Catherine Denizen later married William Gill in 1834.
