John was born about 1786 in <, Fauquier, Va.>.1 John's father was Adam Sr. Darnell and his mother was Catherine Riley. His paternal grandparents were Waugh Darnell and Mary ?; his maternal grandparents were John Riley and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, Adam Jr., Jenny, Hannah, Betsy, Polly and Susan. He was the third youngest of the eight children.General Notes
