Killed by Indians at Squakheag
*Sgt. Samuel Wright Jr. m. Elizabeth Burt on Nov. 24, 1653 in Northhampton, Hampshire Co., MA. Samuel Jr. was b. Oct.? 3?, 1632? in England and D. Sept. 2, 1675 in Northfield, Franklin Co., MA. Samuel Jr. came to America  with his father in 1630 and lived in Springfield nearly 20 years; removed to Northampton 1655/56 and settled on Bridge Street where the house of John L. Draper stood. In addition to the 3 acres for a homelot, he was granted 34 acres of meadow land. After living on this homestead about 17 years, and serving the town as one of its selectmen and in other offices, he went with his family, in company with 15 other families, as pioneer settlers, to a place about 35 miles up the Conn. River, called by the Indians from whom it was purchased, Squakeag. This place which was named by the English "Northfield" because it was the northernmost settlement on the river, became the future home of Samuel Wright Jr. and many of his descendants. He was later killed by Indians at Bloody Brook during the King Philip's War.  Elizabeth was b. in 1630 in Harberton, Devonshire, England and D. Feb. 14/17, 1690/1/2 in Northampton, Hampshire Co., MA.  Elizabeth's parents were Henry Burt and Eulalia Marche.  Samuel Jr. and Elizabeth had at least 8 children. They were Samuel III (shot in the hip during an Indian attack, that killed his father, and carried the bullet until his death. He was also a farmer, carpenter and Selectman, m. Sarah Lyman, had at least 11? children, Sarah (m. Hope Root), Samuel IV (m. Lydia Marshall), Dorcas (died in infancy), John (m. Sarah Clark), Hannah (m. Samuel Phelps), Stephen (moved to Easthampton, Northampton Co., MA, m. Esther Cook/e), Hezekiah (died in infancy/child?), Hepsibah (didn't marry?), Dorcas (died in infancy), Lydia (died in infancy/child?) and Keziah (m. Daniel Lewis)), Joseph (m. Ruth Sheldon, a twin?, had at least 8 children, Joseph Jr. (m. #1 Ruth Hannum/Harmon; m. #2 Sarah Pomeroy), Samuel (died a child), Ruth (died in infancy), Ruth (moved to Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, m. Sergt. Luke Noble), James (died young?), Mary (died young?), Samuel Sheldon (lived in Northampton, Hampden Co., MA, m. Jemima King) and Benoni (in Rev. War, moved to Northfield, Franklin Co., MA, m. Martha Sheldon)), Benjamin (moved to Northfield, Franklin Co., MA, Capt., in 1709 Capt. B. Wright, with about 10 men crossed the wilderness to Lake Champlain. On the 20th of May, they killed one Indian and wounded others near the lake. On their return they had a skirmish with a party of Indians on Onion River, and Lt. John Wells of Deerfield was slain, John Burt of Northampton was slain or perished in the woods and John Strong of Northampton was wounded. The General Court gave to Capt. Wright £12 and to nine men £6 each. They had a pocket compass to guide them, m. #1 Thankful Taylor, had at least 7 children, Jacob (settled in SC), Benjamin Jr. (lived in Northampton, Hampshire Co., MA, m. Hannah Stebbins, *Note- there is confusion with some researchers of a Benjamin Wright who m. a Hannah Holmes), Thankful (died in infancy), Remembrance (m. Elizabeth ?), Thankful (moved to Litchfield, Litchfield Co., CT, m. Capt. Nathaniel Woodruff, one of first settlers, bought a 1/60 right in the town, was commissioned Ensign in the Train Band 2, was in the First Co Foot, Litchfield (13th) Regt and was considered an able Indian fighter, left an estate valued at 493 Pounds, Lt. in 1736; Capt), Mindwell (m. Stephen Belding/Belden Jr., in 1717 he was offered a tract of land in Northfield, Franklin Co., MA,  if he would build a mill there, and he removed to that town soon after.) and Daniel (m. Margaret Judd); Benjamin m. #2 Mary Baker/Barker and had at least 3 children, William (m. Sarah Barrett?), Mary (m. Capt. Orlando Bridgman/Bridgeman) and  Experience (m. James Porter)), Ebenezer (Deacon, lived in the Northampton, Hampshire Co., MA, m. #1 Elizabeth Strong, had 1 child, Mary (died in infancy); Ebenezer m. #2 Hannah Hunt, had at least 8 children, Experience (died in infancy), Obediah (m. Harriett Southwell), Experience (died young, m. Nathaniel Parsons), Noah (m. Sarah Pomeroy), Clemence (m. Joseph Alvord, a weaver), Elisha (died young), Esther (m. Eliakim Clark) and Mary (m. ?)), Elizabeth (m. #1 Thomas Stebbins, a farmer, had at least 9 children, Elizabeth (m. William Wait(e) Jr.), Thomas Jr. (m. Sarah Searle), Josiah (died young), Hannah (m. Samuel King II), Joseph (m. Mary Williams), Experience (died in infancy/child?), Asahel (died young, m. Sarah Petty), Experience (m. John Birge Jr./III?) and Mary (m. Noah Strong, ensign & farmer); Elizabeth m. #2 John Hannum, Jr.)), Eleazer/Eliezur/Elizur (Lt. in Ralle's War, came to Northfield, Franklin Co., MA with his father at the time of the Third Settlement, m. Mary Pardee?, had at least 11 children, Elizur (m. Abigail Hubbard), Hepzibah (died in infancy), Mary (died young), Azariah (m. Elizabeth "Eliza" Arms Field), Nehemiah (m. Mary Sheldon), Eldad (m. Anne ?, note that brother Azariah had a son Eldad who married Anne Taylor), Benoni (moved to Hinsdale, Berkshire Co., MA, m. Hannah Severance), Martha (m. Nathaniel Dickinson IV?, farmer, was killed by the Indians, April 15, 1747), Sarah, Phineas (Col., was a delegate to the Provincial Congress and to the Massachusetts General Court, served as a colonel of the Sixth Hampshire County Regiment of Militia during the Revolutionary War, m.
