Her paternal grandparents were Bird Land and Rebekah Lewellin; her maternal grandparents were Burwell B. McLemore and Amy Gilliam. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Daniel, Burell, Bird, Sally and Mary "Polly". She was the second youngest of the six children.General Notes
