Augustus Claude was born on July 28th, 1893 in Lee Co., TX.1 Augustus Claude's father was Augustave Davis Spradley and his mother was Hannah Minerva Maxwell. His paternal grandparents were Bryant Eugene Spradley and Amelia Ann Todd; his maternal grandparents were Andrew Jackson Maxwell and Narcissa Keen. He had a brother and three sisters, named Floyd D., Alice Pearl, Edna Amelia and Hannah Myrtle. He had four half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Edwin Henry, Fielden Eugene, Ralph Luster, Ernest Clifton, Nora Amelia, Elizabeth Adella, Cordie Mable, Addie Lois, Anna Mae, Earline Geneall, Martha Louise and Thelma Margaret. He died at the age of 90 on January 17th, 1984 in Levita, Coryell Co., TX.1 General Notes

He was born in North Lee Co., TX near Watson Branch School. He was a
garage proprietor, welder, blacksmith and general handyman. In 1912 he
was living temporarily with the parents of B. Elmer Spradley. He and the
next door neighbor went wolf hunting and trapped one. They brought him
home in a cotton bed wagon tied and muzzled. As they came down the street
Claude was singing "You Great Big Beautiful Doll". Elmer was five years
old at the time and that was exciting. They were living in Thorndale,
Milam Co. at the time.
