A. Ellis Smith 
A. Ellis was born on March 14th, 1889 in Hanover, Coosa Co., AL.1 A. Ellis' father was Isaac Patrick Smith and his mother was Amanda Alice Logan. His paternal grandparents were John Alexander, Sr. Smith and Nancy Logan; his maternal grandparents were James Alexander Logan and Carrie Angelina White. He had six brothers and two sisters, named J. Ben, Ottis, Albert P., Isaac Dewey, Huey Patrick, Walter O., Hattie and Ella Jewell. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 51 on November 8th, 1940 in Sylacauga, Talladega Co., AL.1 General Notes

"A. ELLIS SMITH
On Friday evening, November 8th at 6:20 o'clock A. Ellis Smith
departed this life, at Sylacauga Infirmary where he had been admitted
late that afternoon.
Death came as a result of a partial stroke followed with pneumonia.
Mr. Smith was born at Rockford, Ala., Rt. 2, Hanover community, March
14, 1889, son of I. P. Smith and Alice Logan Smith. He grew to manhood in
this community and married Miss Lula Lecory Nov. 28, 1909.
He farmed very successfully for several years, but in 1922 he moved
to Gannts Quarry, Ala., at which place he was residing when death came.
He was an employee at the Alabama Marble Co. for some twelve years after
which time he entered business for himself. He was very cautious which
fact made his business experience so successful that he was generally
recognized as an outstanding figure in business circles of his community.
He was known for his fairness, simplicity, honesty, and generosity toward
those whom he had business dealings.
The great floral offerings, together with the great host of friends
at his funeral was evidence of the esteem that he was held by his many
friends throughout this section.
He was a member of the Baptist Church. His religion was to help
others along life's way. He exemplified his religion in his daily
transactions with his fellowman.
He leaves his wife, Mother, Mrs. I. P. Smith, four brothers, and two
sisters, together with a great host of relatives and friends to mourn his
passing." (1)
