Hi Ron, My name is Lonnie Donaldson, great grandson of James and Harriet
Logan.
I didn't know
that until about a month ago. My grandmother is Cynthia Carrie Logan
born in Alabama, 7
June 1862. She died in 1937 and is buried with husband Josephus C.
Columbus Donaldson
in Water Hole Cemetery south of Garvin, McCurtain County, Oklahoma.
No one knew who Cynthia parents were. Daddy always said her name was
Phillips and
Uncle George, dad's older brother said her name was Logan. I have
searched the census
records for years trying to find this family. I searched Alabama knowing
she was born there, and Texas knowing she and Josephus
was married there to no avail. I had decided that one
of the names was probably a stepfather. She was born in1862 after the
1860 census and
married in1878 before the 1880 census, that left only the 1870 census
that she could be
found with her parents.
About a month ago I was searching the 1880 census of Johnson Conuty,
Texas for a Donaldson
relative. I came across a Phillips family with a George J. B. Logan,
stepson. This started wheels
turning. I didn't know it then but this was Harriet my great grandmother
and second husband
Clayton W. Phillips, spelled Philips on the census. I immediately
looked for Clayton Phillips
in the 1870 census and found the family in Hill Co, Tx. I guess my heart
skipped a beat when
I saw grandmother and her family for the first time. The census taker
spelled Cynthia with an S.
but after further research I know it is Cynthia.
Well I didn't mean to write a book, but found your tree on Roots Web and
thought I'd say hello
and give you a little additional info. James and Harriet had 3
chrildren, George J.B. born April
1859 according to the 1900 census of Hill Co. He married Dora A.
Cynthia Carrie, born 7
June 1862 married Josephus in Bosque Co Tx. 18 July 1878. Leanna
Harriet, born 1864 and
married J.M. McNeil 1 Dec 1888, Red River Co Tx. according to LDS
records. All three
were born in Alabama.
Also I noticed you have Harriet dying about 1882, but she is living with
son George in the 1910
census of Kaufman Co. Texas. She is not with them in 1920 so I assume
she died some time
after 1910.
May I ask why you believe James died in Texas, is there some type of
record? Harriet is already
married to Clayton Phillips in the 1870 census. I don't know where or
when they were married.
Any help or info you could share on the Logans would be much appreciated
as I have just started
researching this family. Thanks for all the hard work you have done and
for sharing it on the
internet. Hope to hear from you when you have time.
