The first spelling of the name is Tickel and tickle, found in NC. The
oldest anscestor is John Tickle married to Nancy Adams. He was born 1784

The family fanally adopted two spellings-Tekell and Teakell. There are
pronounced-Tekell-tea kell', and Teakell-teak' ull. The various census
takers spelled it a variety of ways.

Both Tekel's paroled(released) on 4 May 1865. Under command of Brig. Gen.
S. W. Fergurson
Fegruson's command was the last command to report for duty to the
Secretary of War of the Confederate States.
I haven't a clue who Ansel Teakell in 1850 Hancock Co., AL is. There is
an unknown Teakell born c 1812 GA but it is supposed to be a girl. Ansel
should show up on the 1840 AL census since his children are listed as
born in AL. A great curiosity.
I have surveyed the cemetery where Amanda C. Harris, John Matt Teakell,
Sarah E. Garrett are buried. You can find it on ALGenWeb Archives.
