Her paternal grandparents were John Shorter Kelley and Lucy Ann Gavin; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Jefferson Cutts and Nancy Holt. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Carey Elmo, Olin Aubrey, Arthur Desmond, Delma Vernon, John Fentress, Ethel Agnes, Thelma Alene and Velma W.. She was the youngest of the nine children.-
