John Downing Castellaw 
John Downing was born on February 27th, 1844 in NC.1 John Downing's father was William Larry Castellaw and his mother was Sally Castellaw. His paternal grandparents were James C. Castellaw and Elizabeth Cobb; his maternal grandparents were William Castellaw and Sarah Mitchell. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named William Larry, Larry, Starkey, James Turner, Elizabeth, Drucilla, Sally Frances, Martha Ann, Cealy, Adaline and Penelope Ritta. He was the second youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 63 on July 2nd, 1907 in Hertford Co., NC.1 -
