Robert II the was born on March 27th, 0972 in Orleans, France. Robert II the's father was King of France Hugh Capet King of France and his mother was Adelaide of Poitou. His paternal grandparents were Duke of France Hugh Magnus of France Duke of France and Hedwige (Judith) of Germany; his maternal grandparents were Duke of Aquitain William I Towhead of Aquitaine Duke of Aquitain and Adelaide of Saxony. He had two sisters named Gisele and Edith (Hedwig). He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 59 on July 20th, 1031 in Melun Castle, Melun, Aquitaine, France. Robert was educated at Rheims under Gerbert (later Pope Silvester II). "As
the ideal of mediaeval Christianity he won his surname of `Pious' by his
humility and charity, but he also possessed some of the qualities of a
soldier and a statesman." Crowned in 12-987, he became sole king on his
father's death in 996. Marriage irregularities led to his excommunication
