Robert Spilman had succeeded Sir Anthony by 1421, which may be an
indication of the approximate date of the latter's death. The heirs of
Robert became the owners of the Manor of Payton in Bures Saint Mary, a
village a fe w miles from Sudbury. It passed from the family's possession
in or before 153 1. At that date it is mentioned in Court Roll 123/1859,
Folios 22 and 23, Hon our of Clare, as purchased by Sir Robert Norwiche,
Knight, Chief Justice of t he Common Pleas, of "the executors of (???)
Spilman, gentleman."
