John Spilman and his wife, whose name is unknown, were buried in Tha xted
Church, as appears in the will of their son, John. They had two sons of
the name of John, a son, Robert, and a daughter. This daughter was
unmarrie d in 1461, when she is mentioned in the Court Rolls for a court
at Thaxted (1 73/91), held on the Thursday after the Feast of Saint Lucy,
as having been "f ined 4d for respite of suit of court." In the Court
Rolls for the years 1468, 1472, 1473, 1476, 1482, and 1507, she is also
recorded as being fined each t ime the same amount for the same cause. It
would be interesting to know the h istory of this matter.
