ROBERT SPILMAN was born at Stow, County  Norfolk, about 1320.  He wa s a
younger son, and, doubtless, found small opportunity for advancement in
Stow. At least he did not stay there, but went, first, to Attleburgh,
and, l ater, settled in Sudbury, County Suffolk. It was at Attleburgh, a
few miles t o the eastward of Stow, that, as mentioned above, we find the
earliest record of the Spelmans in Norfolk. David Spilman, the son of
Henry of the Third Gen eration, it will be recalled, had a son, John, who,
in 1304, bequeathed to hi s widow, Isabella, land in Attleburgh, near Stow.
Robert Spilman died about 13 91, probably, as his son succeeded him in
that year.
