Joan de was born about 1233 in Swanscombe, Dartford, Kent, England.  Joan de's father was Warin de Munchensy , Lord of Swanscomb and her mother was Joan Marshal.  Her paternal grandparents were William de Munchensy , of Swanscombe, Sir and Aveline de Clare; her maternal grandparents were William Marshal , 4th Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare , Countess of Pembroke. She had a brother named John de.  She was the younger of the two children. She had a half-brother named William de.  She died before September 30th, 1307.

‌Joan de and William de were married in a religious ceremony on August 13th, 1247.  They had two daughters named Isabel de and Joan de.
