Her paternal grandparents were John "The Marshall" Fitzgilbert and Sibilla (Sibyl) De Salisbury; her maternal grandparents were [2Nd Earl Pembroke] Richard "Strongbow" Fitzgilbert Richard Strongbow Earl Of Pembroke [2Nd Earl Pembroke]/Clare and [Countess Of Ireland Eve (Aoife) Macmurrough [Countess Of Ireland. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert VII Earl Of Pembroke, William, Richard, Anselm, Walter, Sybil, Eve, Isabel and Joane. She was the second oldest of the ten children. This lady, upon the decease of her youngest brother, Anselm, Earl of Pembroke, s. p., in 1245, and the division of the estates, obtained as her share the manor of Hempsted-Marshall, in Berks, with the office of marshal of England, which was inherited by her son Roger Bigod, 4th Earl of Norfolk, and surrendered to the crown by her grandson, Rogert Bigod, 5th Earl of Norfolk. Maud, Countess of Norfolk, had likewise the manors of Chepstow and Carlogh.
