Robert was born in 1143 in Woodham Mortimer, Essex, England. Robert's father was 2nd Earl/ Hugh I Of Wigmore DE MORTIMER and his mother was Maud LES MESCHIMES. His maternal grandparents were Lord William Of Copeland LES MESCHIMES and Lady Cecily Of Skipton DE RUMILLY. He had a brother and a sister, named Roger II Of Wigmore and Maud.
