Walter was born in 1198 in Of, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Walter's father was William MARSHALL 4th Earl PEMBROKE and his mother was Isabel de CLARE COUNTESS OF PEMB. His paternal grandparents were John "the Marshall" FITZGILBERT and Sibyl de SALISBURY; his maternal grandparents were Richard Fitzgilbert de CLARE Earl of Pembroke, Strongbow" and Eva (Aoife) macmurogh kavanagh. He had four brothers and six sisters, named William, Richard, Gilbert, Anselm, Margaret, Maud, Joan, Isabel, Sibyl and Eve. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 47 on November 24th, 1245 in Goodrich Castle, London, Middlesex, England. He was buried in Tintern, Abbey, England.-
