Sir Ralph Eure who m. Katharine, one of the daus. and co-heirs of Sir William Aton, 2nd Lord Aton, and in the 13th Richard II [1390], made partition with the other co-heirs of those lands which were of their inheritance; Sir Ralph being at the time sheriff of Northumberland and governor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He was afterwards sheriff of Yorkshire and constable of the Castle of York, and again sheriff of Northumberland. Sir Ralph Eure was s. by his son, Sir William Eure, who m. Maud, dau. of Henry, Lord Fitz-Hugh, and had issue, Sir Ralph Eure, who fell at Towton-field in the 1st Edward IV [1461], and from him descended Sir William Eure, who m. Elizabeth Willoughby. SS, vol. 144 (which published the first visitation, that recorded between 1480 and 1500), shows, at pp. 110, 111, that Sir Ralph Eure (Yvers), knight, married a daughter of William, lord Aton. They had Sir William Eure, knight, who married Matilda, daughter of lord FitzHugh, and had Thomas Eure, who married Margaret, daughter of Danby, "meratoris de Eboraco." Thomas and Margaret had William Eure.
Sir Ralf Eure, knight, ninth of his line listed in CDP, died in or soon after 1422, possessed of Witton Castle, in Weardale, co. Durham, with many other lands, including Old Malton, Yorkshire, brought in marriage by his wife, Katharine Aton, who descended from the baronial families of Vere, Clifford, and Percy. They had, among others, William, born about 1396, and Katharine who married Alexander Nevil, Knight.
