Maurice II "Magnanimous" 2nd Baron de was born in April 1281 in Berkeley Castle, Thornbury, Gloucestershire, England.  Maurice II "Magnanimous" 2nd Baron de's father was Thomas II "The Wise" 1st Baron de Berkeley and his mother was Joan de Ferrers.  His paternal grandparents were Maurice I "The Resolute" de Berkeley , Sir and Isabel FitzRoy; his maternal grandparents were William III de Ferrers , 5th Earl of Derby and Margaret de Quincy. He had a brother and a sister, named Thomas III de and Margaret de.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 45 on May 31st, 1326 in Wallingford Castle, Berkshire, England (as a prisoner).  He was buried in St Augustine's Priory, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.
