His paternal grandparents were Robert de Quincy , Lord of Buckley and Orabella Countess of Leuchars; his maternal grandparents were Robert III de Beaumont , 3rd Earl of Leicester and Petronella de Grandmesnil. He had a brother and three sisters, named Robert de, Loretta de, Hawise de and Orabella de. He was the second oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother named Robert de.
