Herve was born in 1065. Herve's father was Bouchard III DE MONTMORENCY and his mother was Adeliza DE CLERMONT. His paternal grandparents were Bouchard II "Le Barbu" DE MONTMORENCY and Helvide BASSET; his maternal grandparents were Count Hugh DE Creil Of Claremont DE CLERMONT and Marquerite DE ROUCY. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Gilbert FitzGilbert Of Pembroke and Hereford, Baldwin Fitzgilbert Of Bourne Deeping, Richard FitzGilbert Of Hertford, John "The Marshall", Agnes, Alice, Margaret and Rose FitzGilbert Of Monmouth.General Notes
Credited with the first unification of the country, convertedthe Danes to Christianity, and conquered Norway. After hisBaptism his fathers pagan tomb was transformed into a Christianplace of worship.
Introduced Christianity into Denmark, he had the famous Jellingrune stone erected in his parent memory. He was fatally woundedduring a rebellion by his son and successor, Sveng I.
