Margaret De was born in 1249 in Tonbridge, Kent, England.  Margaret De's father was Richard de CLARE EARL OF GLOUCESTER and her mother was Maud de LACY. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert "the Red Earl" de, Thomas de, Bevis (Bogo) (Benet) De, Robert (Richard) De, Isabel De, Maud De, Roese (Rohesia) De and Eglentine De.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
