Richard D' was born about 1094 in Chester, Cheshire, England. Richard D''s father was Hugh "Lupus" D' Avranches 1st Earl Of Chester and his mother was Ermentrude De Clermont [Countess Of Che. His paternal grandparents were Richard Le Goz Viscount D' Avranches and Emma De Conteville. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Robert I, Geva D', Maud D' and Helga De. RICHARD) EARL OF CHESTER, also VICOMTE D'AVRANCHFS &C., in Normandy, only son and heir, aged 7 years at his father's death. He married, in 1115, Maud, daughter of Stephen, COUNT OF BLOIS, by Adelaide, daughter of WILLIAM 1. He died s.p. legit., 25 November 1120, being drowned, together his wife, her cousin William (the only son and heir apparent of the King), and a vast number of the nobility, by the shipwreck of the "Blanche Nef," off Barfleur.
