Her paternal grandparents were Baron William II de Braose and Bertha de Gloucester; her maternal grandparents were Bernard de St Valery and Bertha FitzWalter de Gloucester. She had thirteen brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Roger, Thomas, Walter, Lord William IV (The Younger), Hugh, Giles, Henry, Reginald, Bernard, John, Fulk, Philip, Maud, Joan, Laurette, Margaret and Eleanor.
