Gilbert was born in 1565 in Hull, Devon, Eng. Gilbert's father was Thomas H. Holcombe and his mother was Margaret Trethford. His paternal grandparents were Ellis Holcombe and Elizaberh Sydenham ***; his maternal grandparents were Raymond Trethurffe *** and Elizabeth Courtenay. He had two brothers named Christopher and Josias. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 69 in 1634 in Pembroke, Wales.-
