William (The Great) was born about 1454 in Powderham Castle, Devon, Eng.  William (The Great)'s father was Sir William Courtenay and his mother was Cecily Cheyney.  His paternal grandparents were Sir William Courtenay and Margaret Bonville; his maternal grandparents were John Cheny and Elizabeth Hill. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named James, Piers, Edward, Joane, Elizabeth, Ann, Cicely, Eleanor, Daughter and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children.  He died on November 24th, 1535 in Powderham Castle, Devfon, Eng.

They had four sons and three daughters, named John, Philip, James, Thomas, Gertrude, Katherine and Elizabeth.
