Thomas Courtenay 
Thomas was born about 1533 in Powderham Castle, Devon, Eng. Thomas' father was William (The Great) Courtenay and his mother was Mary Gainsford. His paternal grandparents were Sir William Courtenay and Cecily Cheyney; his maternal grandparents were Sir John Gainsford and Ann Hawte. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Philip, James, Gertrude, Katherine and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the seven children. He had five half-brothers named George, Peter, Henry, Nicholas and Anthony.-
