Chandler Awbrey was born on November 13th, 1804. Chandler Awbrey's father was Robert Johnston and his mother was Elisabeth Awbrey. His paternal grandparents were John Johnston and Mary Dougan. He had five brothers and five sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Benjamin, Robert Dugan, William, Samuel Awbrey, Thomas Dougan, Areathusca, Mary (Polly), Elisabeth, Margaret, Rebeca and Posey. He was the second youngest of the twelve children.-
