Willis was born on October 27th, 1777 in Mecklenburg, Co., Va. Willis' father was William Hopwood and his mother was Nancy Anne Willis. His paternal grandparents were Moses Hopwood and Elizabeth Pridham Hinckley. He had a brother named James. He died at the age of 72 on October 6th, 1850 in Marshall Co., Tn.General Notes
