Gilbert was born on September 2nd, 1243 in Tunbridge Castle, Kent Eng. Gilbert's father was Richard Clare and his mother was Maud Lacy. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Clare and Isabel Marshall; his maternal grandfather was John Lucy. He had two brothers and a sister, named Wiliam, Thomas and Rohesia. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295 in Monmouth Castle.-
