Amelia was born about 1872 in Santa Clara, Treinta Y Tres, Uruguay.  Amelia's father was Francisco ("Chico") Saraiva Caäneda and her mother was Propicia "Pulpicia" Da Rosa.  Her paternal grandparents were Francisco Do Amaral Saraiva De Jesus and Maria Angelica (Da Costa) Pereira; her maternal grandfather was Da Rosa. She had nine brothers and two sisters, named Gumersindo, Basilicio, Antonio Floricio ("Chiquito"), Aparicio, Jose, Camilo, Francisco Propicio, Mariano, Timoteo, Juana and Sensata.  She was the second youngest of the twelve children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Enrique "Pichinango", Gilberto, Manuel Maria, Teresa and Braulia.  She died before 1911 in Santa Clara, Treinta Y Tres, Uruguay.

‌Amelia and Irineo were married in a religious ceremony on June 25th, 1887 in Santa Clara, Treinta Y Tres, Uruguay.  They had two sons and three daughters, named Arlindo, Jose Francisco, Jovita, Hildara and Elvira.
