Her paternal grandparents were James Whaley and Elizabeth; her maternal grandparents were Jacob Remy and Sarah. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Elizabeth, Jane Or Keziah and Barbara. She was the youngest of the six children. She had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Jacob Gibson, Benjamin, James, Henry, Elijah, Leland, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Sarah, Kate and Jemima.-
