Amanda C. was born in 1856 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.¹   Amanda C.'s father was William Spears and her mother was Mahala A..  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Spears and Rebecca Smith. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Joseph, John H., Matilda Ann, Parthenia and Pheriby Jane.  She was the second youngest of the seven children. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named William, Margaret, Rebecca Jane, Cornelia B. and Rachel E..
