William Simmons 
William was born in 1843 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 William's father was James G. Simmons and his mother was Sarah Gillenwater. His paternal grandparents were James Simmons and Elizabeth Gillenwaters; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Gillenwater and Mary Mallory Wilkins. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Thomas, James, Clay, Mary, Nancy, Rachel, Martha and Sarah. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.-
