Sarah Erwin was born on September 17th, 1770 in ,Botecourt, Virginia.1 Sarah Erwin's father was Joshua Phipps and her mother was Hester Aston. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Phipps and Elizabeth. She had a brother and three sisters, named William, Willana Wilma, Deborah and Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the five children.
