Mary Sidney was born in 1833 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Mary Sidney's father was Absalom Kyle and her mother was Barsheba Whitehead Cobb. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Kyle and Leah Brooks; her maternal grandparents were Pharoah Cobb and Barsheba Whitehead. She had nine brothers and four sisters, named William Caswell, Robert P., Absalom Arthur, Stokley, Joseph, Jesse, Claiborne, Leonidas Netherland, Gale, Minerva, Ailsey, Barsheba and Annis. She was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children.-
